Essential Academic Reminders and Resources
Published on January 6, 2023
Welcome to 2023 – a new year and a new semester. This is a great opportunity to step back and reflect on the study habits that worked well last semester, and areas where you need to make adjustments. It's a fresh start!
The following is a list of highly valuable resources to help you thrive academically that you may or may not be familiar with. I encourage you to review the list and get acquainted with these resources so that you know where to turn when you need them (e.g., when the assignments start rolling in).
- The Outcome Index in Forum. Did you notice that HCs can be sorted by Cornerstone course and by Core Competency? The latter is a cool way to see the breakdown of the HCs in terms of thinking competencies – the HC “tree.”
-
The HC Resources Page on the Hub (myMinerva) contains several resources to help you learn and apply the HCs, including videos, written guides, and checklists. You are learning LOTS of HCs! The more of them you are introduced to, the more valuable these resources will be. Linked from here...
- Did you know that all custom guides/whitepapers on the HCs are collected on one of the subpages (here) from the HC Resources?
- The Academic Foundations Series is available as a YouTube playlist. This series of short videos has helpful guidance on class prep, feedback, footnotes, and more.
- The Study Kit is an initiative dedicated to promoting positive learning habits, led by students, for students. The team is in the process of moving their content to a new website and recruiting new members. If you are passionate about education and want to help others learn, stay tuned for details on how to join.
- The Avoiding Plagiarism guide on the Hub (myMinerva) is ideal for a refresher on how Minerva views plagiarism. The Q&A section is particularly helpful for common questions, such as appropriate collaboration, self-plagiarism, and effective paraphrasing.
