Connect Through Taste
Hi Minervans
Come and join us to explore the markets around the world, learn about food shopping that is historically and culturally anchored. Our Global Market Week is from March/7 to March/14, ending with a livestream traditional market tour in Taipei on March/14.
Most of our shopping these days - in particular on food, happens in supermarkets, malls and online. In the old days, many towns and cities actually evolved around markets - those markets served as a community center where people met and interacted with each other. For example a traditional morning market in Taiwan is the place where people come together to get fresh produce, fruits, meat and other groceries. It also offers a public and social space for different groups to mingle, and provides low threshold opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship. One can organically experience social encounters, social tolerance and inclusion at the market in the community. Intentional urban planning or social welfare systems can never replace or even replicate the role of traditional markets in Taiwan. Most traditional markets may appear to the observer as loud, crowded and even dirty, but one finds so much community wisdom in it. What does your local market look like?
You can visit your favourite local market and share with us on our ongoing Connect through Taste Calendar - watch our "How To Video" and get started.
